The Sundance Film Festival was no hype

Playing at local theatres – The winter months are the best time to sit back and enjoy a new movie playing at your local theatre or to purchase your own copy of the movie to view at home. You can also find sites where you can watch the movie for free. Pariah is the first full length movie for director Dee Rees, and seems to draw inspiration from her life and struggle to find her creative voice. A 2007 Sundance Film Festival Award winning production, Pariah is currently showing at selected theatres and is to appear in local theatres around the world on January 6th.
Odepero Oduye brings the movie to life as the main character Alike, who is trying to accept the fact she’s a lesbian. Alike still lives at home with her parents and sister in Brooklyn, which makes for a few tense and even humorous moments. Alike plays the part of a 17-year old lesbian struggling in a world of harsh criticism, while attempting to grow into a woman to perfection. Alike is also a part Odepero recently indicated was not the part she first auditioned for, during an interview with her co-star in the movie Kim Wayans. Movie lovers can expect to see more of Odepero Oduye in films in the future.
Pariah is ultimately about the individual human struggle to understand ourselves and find our place in a world where we’re ostracized for being real. A film about sexual experimentation, religious beliefs, education, parenting, infidelity and a number of other social issues that effect all of us, Pariah is a movie that will make you think more about your own life.
